Parkinson's disease is primarily caused by the progressive loss of nerve cells in the brain that produce dopamine, a neurotransmitter crucial for movement and coordination. While the exact cause is often unknown, it's believed to be a combination of genetic and environmental factors.
Factors contributing to Parkinson's disease:
Age:
Advanced age is the most significant risk factor.
Genetics:
While not directly hereditary, genetic predispositions can increase an individual's susceptibility. Specific genetic mutations have been linked to rare, early-onset forms of the disease.
Environmental factors:
Exposure to certain toxins, such as pesticides and herbicides, may increase the risk of developing Parkinson's.
Head trauma:
Repeated head injuries may also contribute to the development of Parkinson's.
Other potential factors:
Some research suggests that environmental toxins, air pollution, and lifestyle factors like smoking and caffeine consumption could play a role.

Michael J. Fox is on the wrong path nutritionally. I strongly believe that most disease is nutritionally and environmentally related, and we know for damn sure that a “flexitarian diet” is another fad diet that is causing more harm than good.
Not medical advice, but if I was Michael J Fox’s health coach, I’d focus on three major things to possibly alleviate his Parkinson’s symptoms:
1. Eradicate all foods from his diet besides meat, salt, and water. This elimination diet will allow his body to meet all of his nutritional needs (especially B vitamins) and get rid of neuro-inflammatory foods.
2. Get consistent full-body sun exposure. Have him lay out in the sun for hours. Work up gradually.
3. Remove ALL toxic household products. Artificial shampoos, fragrances, shaving creams, dish soaps, detergents. All of these cause inflammation in the brain.
It’s really that easy. Just takes a tiny bit of sacrifice.
